Big Bright Light Show
The Big Bright Light Show is the pride and joy of Rochester/Rochester Hills. They line the entire downtown area with Christmas lights. Every business is required to pay a tax to put up the lights as part of their rent agreement. Each year, tourists come to Rochester, making store owners happy for the business and residents grumble about the traffic. Each year they hold a party to turn on the lights, and it is a very big deal to the community. This festival is central to the towns identity.

Fire and Ice Festivals
Every year, Rochester holds a Fire and Ice Festival. The name is somewhat misleading, as it is almost entirely an ice festival, and then they hold fireworks. The Festival includes dogsledding, regular sledding, food, ice skating, and more. The downtown area is completely overrun with people celebrating the holidays, and lots of street vendors with cocoa and treats. Ice sculptures line the roads, and it’s a good time to walk the downtown area with family and friends to celebrate Christmas later than you are supposed to.
